Sterile water for injections serves as a means of diluting or dissolving appropriate parenteral medications.
Composition:
1 amp. contains 10 ml of water for injections.
Action:
Solvent for preparing perenteral medicines.
Contraindications:
Water for injections should not be administered alone. Contraindications to the use of added drugs should be considered.
Precautions:
Water for injections should not be used for an intravenous injection without bringing (approximately) into the isotonia with the appropriate solute. If water for injections is used to dilute hypertonic solutions, dilution should be used to obtain a solution similar to isotonia. Infusion of large volumes of hypotonic solutions with sterile water for injections as a solvent can lead to haemolysis. If large volumes are administered, the ionic balance should be checked systematically.
Pregnancy and lactation:
The risk of use during pregnancy and breastfeeding women depends on the type of drugs added.
Side effects:
Intravenous injection of water for injections alone may cause haemolysis. The possibility of other side effects depends on the type of drug being added.
Dosage:
The amount and speed of administration depends on the dosage regimen of the prescribed drug.
