The incidence of skin cancer is closely related to long-term sun exposure and the type of skin complexion. Therefore, stop long solar baths! Actinic keratosis - threatens squamous cell carcinoma
Actinic keratosis is the pre-cancerous condition most commonly found on the skin, which is a horny-keratin discoloration. Skin changes occur on the face, dorsal surfaces of hands, forearms, neck, neck and scalp. They can be single or more often scattered, round or oval.
How to distinguish between actinic keratosis and other skin changes?
Their color and structure of yellow-brown "foci" with a dry, rough, flaky surface is characteristic. The fires are in the level of the skin or slightly elevated. An attempt to separate the stratum corneum reveals a moist, sometimes slightly bleeding surface. The duration of the changes is many years. On its basis, squamous cell carcinoma usually develops.
Do not underestimate skin changes resembling cancer
In the case of disturbing, long-lasting or non-healing skin changes, it is best to consult a dermatologist or surgeon. Early diagnosis can guarantee full recovery. Before treatment, a diagnosis should be made on the basis of a reliable modern instrumented optical and / or histopathological examination of the skin removed from the changed site.
Methods of treatment of squamous cell carcinoma
- surgical removal,
- freezing with liquid nitrogen,
- treatment with local cancer destroying preparations.
Squamous cell carcinoma now causes metastases in about 2-3% of patients
However, when these tumors are diagnosed early and treated correctly - the recovery prognosis is very good. (Healing is over 95%!). In the case of metastases to regional lymph nodes, the 5-year survival is 70%, and when distant metastases are present - 30%.
Beware of pre-cancer lesions!
Skin cancer, like any other, does not arise immediately. It is preceded by pre-cancer lesions. It is only in their consequence that dangerous to health and life are created - skin melanomas and non-melanoma skin cancers. Pre-cancerous condition is called every lesion, on the basis of which, significantly more often than on the basis of other lesions, cancer develops.
