Purpose of treatment
Each of the forms of acne is characterized by varying degrees of severity, from mild to moderate to severe and requires different medical treatment. However, the common goal of treatment is to prevent excessive keratosis of the skin, inhibit the development of skin-friendly bacteria Propionibacterium acnes and reduce seborrhoea. Each of these factors contributes to the development of acne.
The principle of comprehensive treatment
The basic principle is to avoid monotherapy. Optimal results of acne treatment are achieved by using a combination of drugs at the same time to inhibit:
- excessive production of sebum in sebaceous glands
- increased keratosis of the sebaceous glands
- multiplication of bacteria that break down tallow
- and reduce inflammation.
A long list of acne medications
If the severity of acne causes is high, skin prevention and hygiene is not enough. Then we reach for medication - usually for topical use. Although acne is not treated as a serious disease - then the list of drugs for embarrassing comedones, pustules and papules is long and extensive. Both those without a prescription and prescription drugs from a dermatologist. However, almost all of them are aimed at - cleansing the skin of fat, pore removal and alleviation of inflammation.
Local acne treatment
In the treatment of common acne, the so-called local treatment, i.e. limited to lubricating the affected skin with an appropriate medication. This is especially true for lighter cases of acne vulgaris and not too severe maculopapular pustular acne. In non-advanced forms of these types of disease, you can initially use self-medication with the help of over-the-counter medications.
It's best to start with prophylaxis
The most important is prophylaxis, that is, daily thorough cleansing of the skin with a good cleaning agent. Thanks to prevention, you can avoid acne outbreaks or reduce their severity. A good complexion starts with clean pores, i.e. removing dead cells from the skin, which plug the hair follicles together with sebum. By unblocking the skin of the follicles of the pilosebaceous tracts in the skin, we reduce the risk and severity of acne and restore the skin to a healthy and nice appearance.
Prophylactic treatment and local treatment
Vitamin A, B, PP, C as well as zinc are used in adjuvant and prophylactic treatment. Effective treatments include chemical exfoliation of cornified epidermis with alpha-hydroxy acids (at a concentration of 20-70%). Alpha-hydroxy acids exfoliate, counteracting keratosis of hair follicles and formation of acne pegs and comedones. In topical treatment, it is advisable to combine or alternate several preparations with different mechanisms of action, which strengthens the therapeutic effect and minimizes side effects.
Optimal results of acne treatment
Optimal results of acne treatment are achieved using a complex of several drugs, so as to simultaneously inhibit: 1) overproduction of sebum in sebaceous glands of hair and skin; 2) keratosis and clogging of the mouths of these glands; 3) multiplication of bacteria that break down tallow into irritating fatty acids; 4) reduce inflammation. In the case of the need for long-term treatment of acne vulgaris, there is a tendency to topically apply drugs such as antibiotics, azelaic acid, benzoyl peroxide and retinoids * to the skin.
