Thrombotic syndrome - complication of venous thrombosis
symptomsTrace band
The post-thrombotic syndrome is a name for disease sequels that may appear months or even years after the deep veins thrombosis. The most common symptoms of post-thrombotic syndrome are pain, swelling and leg ulcers.
Throwing team
We have a post-thrombotic syndrome when the veins are restored after venous thrombosis and when the so-called musculoskeletal pump calf.
The mechanism of formation of the post-thrombotic syndrome
The primary cause of the disease symptoms is inflammatory damage to the deep vein, which over time regains only partial patency after the episode of thrombosis. As a result of the disease process and the following changes, stiffening of the flexible and flaccid vessel wall occurs. Valves are also damaged. Venous blood then shows a tendency to the so-called reverse flow - reflux. It flows "down" towards the foot and not back to the heart. This leads to hypertension in the venous system of the limb and overloading the leg veins of the leg. As a result of excessive pressure, varicose veins and swellings are initiated or enlarged, and as a result of hypoxia - to skin ulcers.
Who is exposed to this disease?
The post-thrombotic syndrome occurs only in people who have previously suffered from deep vein thrombosis, regardless of their age. In general, one out of three people who have suffered from thrombosis will develop a post-thrombotic syndrome within a few years. Most cases will appear within 2 years. People who have suffered from thrombosis more than once (recurrent thrombosis) are at greater risk of subgingectal syndrome. But be careful! Thrombosis can go unnoticed, so it is possible for a post-thrombotic syndrome to occur without prior diagnosis of thrombosis.
Warning! With the apnea thrombosis of deep veins, it threatens pulmonary embolism
Thrombotic inflammation of the deep veins may lead to congestion. The thrombotic material breaks away from the inflamed venous wall and travels to the heart with bloodstream and further to the lungs, where it can even cause sudden death when the large vessel is closed. For this reason, surgeons are afraid of deep vein inflammation and treat them with blood thinners such as heparin and high doses of anti-inflammatory drugs. During treatment, lying in bed with raised limb.
How to recognize a post-thrombotic syndrome?
The post-thrombotic syndrome is difficult to diagnose because it looks like a primary venous insufficiency or even a primary acute thrombosis event, especially when the thrombosis has not been diagnosed. Symptoms may be mild, moderate or severe. If we notice any of the following symptoms on the leg, it may mean that it is a post-thrombotic syndrome.
