People who are constantly slimming down are well-known term - "yo-yo effect". It means the recovery of kilograms lost during weight loss, often with a vengeance.
Of particular importance in the development of many disorders of health and diseases is the so-called visceral fat tissue. Obesity initiates such diseases as: diabetes, hypertension and lipid disorders, spine diseases and many more.
What is the yo-yo effect?
1. The yo-yo effect is associated with the rate of basic metabolism. During the use of a low-energy diet the rate of basic metabolism decreases. It is an adaptive reaction to the reduction of energy supplied with food - such switching the body to "economical mode". Body temperature is lowered (people on restrictive diets or starvation complain about cold feeling), blood pressure. The more rigorous the diet, the greater the decrease in PPM.
2. Quite often, there is also a reduction in the amount of muscle tissue in the body (burning).
These two elements and low physical activity cause that when the intensive weight loss phase ends or when the diet is interrupted due to the attack of "wolf hunger and gluttony" and we return to the old bad diet without a transitional stage (moving out of the low energy regimen) weight gain takes place . When we are going to give the organism a hungry diet again large amounts of energy, it will start to store them in the event of a possible next period of shortage. It usually accumulates more than before - before slimming - in the word we have a yo-yo effect!
3. Every failure raises the nuisance of further weight loss
Each subsequent weight loss diet is heavier - it's getting harder to lose pounds. The body does not give willingly collected inventory.
4. Harmfulness of the yo-yo effect on health
From the health point of view, the yo-yo effect, ie weight fluctuations, is much more unfavorable than the elevated but stable body mass.
