A wound is called damage to the skin's continuity reaching the deeper tissues or organs of the body. Damage to the skin can be the result of random mechanical, thermal and chemical trauma, as well as being a skin symptom of some diseases. Damage to the skin's continuity may also be intentional as a result of a surgical operation.
Cutting, or a small wound
A small wound - i.e. damage to the continuity of skin tissues reaching the dermis and subcutaneous tissue with their extensive blood supply to the micro-small vessels and veins and blood vessels is usually referred to as a cut.
Dig. Cuteness and skin layers:
A - epidermis; B - dermis; C - subcutaneous tissue
1. Cutaneous and vascular papillomas
2. The hook of the hair shaft
3. Sebaceous gland
4. Hair
5. Blood vessels
6. Fat cells
7. Arteries and veins of the skin
8. Sweat glands
9. Hair follicle
10. Endings of nerve receptors
Causes of cuts
Most often the cut, i.e. a small wound or other type of skin injury is caused by the accidental action of an acute object: a blade, teeth of a small pet, sharp edge, burns, etc. In this type of skin injuries also subcutaneous structures are damaged - also local vessels are damaged. blood, which sometimes causes profuse bleeding. In deep cuts, the subcutaneous tissue may be cut.
Skin abrasion
For less deep skin lesions than hurting - limited mainly to the epidermis we reserve the word abrasion. The abrasion may, however, be extensive and painful, e.g. after contact of a large surface of the skin with a rough surface during a fall. Then the small blood vessels under the epidermis are damaged. The result is numerous point bleedings and exudations.
Forms of skin damage
Depending on the way the skin collides with the damaging factor: tool, object, chemical or thermal factor, teeth of the animal or the surface damaging the skin - there are different forms of damage to the skin and subcutaneous tissues:
- cut damage, cut wounds
- stuck damage, stab wounds
- gunshot damage, gunshot wounds
- broken damage,
- lacerations, lacerations
- bent damage.
- chemical damage
- thermal damage
There are wounds that arise as a result of certain diseases:
- Varicose ulcer,
- trophic ulcer (decubitus ulcer),
- neuropathic ulceration,
- wounds caused by ischemia or tissue infection (impetigo, rose, etc.)
