Every healthy organism infects itself with the infection of common cold viruses. It is possible thanks to the immune system - a personal doctor. When the HIV virus (human immunodeficiency virus) gets inside the body is different. This virus in the first place overpowers our personal doctor - the immune system, also called immunological!
3. DEVELOPMENT OF HIV INFECTION
The first period of the disease - immediately after infection
Approximately 6 people out of 10 infected with HIV have flu-like symptoms from 3 to 6 weeks after infection. These are:
- fever, excessive sweating, drowsiness
- sore throat, aching muscles and joints
- enlarged lymph nodes in the axillary, inguinal and cervical region, and sometimes the spleen,
- a maculopapular rash similar to that occurring in the course of rubella,
- lymphocytic meningitis,
How long the flu-like symptoms of HIV infection last
Flu-like symptoms last from several to several dozen days. After this they pass, but they can convert, and the enlargement of the lymph nodes can be persistent. Patients do not realize this and usually associate symptoms with "cold" or "flu".
Let's be vigilant!
The syndrome of these symptoms is difficult to identify as a result of HIV infection, because there are many other causes of symptoms. However, in people who have considered a sexual contact as a risk of HIV infection and have knowledge about the above-mentioned set of symptoms - this may be an additional incentive to take HIV test.
The second period of infection - asymptomatic carriers of HIV
About a month after infection, the immune system is fully mobilized to fight the HIV virus. Cytotoxic cells (CD8) are activated, which try to destroy virus-infected cells of the body and the viruses themselves. This initial reaction of the immune system is not able to completely block the multiplication of the virus, However, it limits the battlefield to the lymphatic system. Within this system, slow destruction of the lymphatic tissue and damage to the reproductive tract of the lymph nodes proceed. Despite the lack of clinical symptoms, there is a slow decline in the number of cells fighting HIV (CD4 T-lymphocytes) and other cells of the immune system.
HIV infection in the lymphatic system - lymphadenopathic syndrome
The symptom of the fight against HIV within the lymphatic system is the so-called persistent generalized enlargement of lymph nodes. We recognize this condition when the lymph nodes (except the groins) grow to a diameter above 1 cm and persist for more than 3 months in at least 2 regions:
- underarms,
- under the lower jaw,
- on the neck, on the neck.
The third stage of the disease - the period of early symptoms.
This period is characterized by progressive destruction of the immune system. The level of cytotoxic cells (CD4 T-lymphocytes) drops to 500-200 / ml. The so-called opportunistic infections from harmless microbes, followed by weight loss (about 10%), periodic or continuous fever, diarrhea. e.t.c
TABLE OF CONTENTS OF THE ENTIRE DEVELOPMENT:
Early symptoms of AIDS
- periodic fever difficult to explain (over 38 ° C)
- weight loss difficult to explain
- enlargement of the lymph nodes
- periodic or chronic diarrhea (more than 2 bowel movements daily)
- night sweating
- feeling of physical and mental exhaustion
How long does the asymptomatic HIV carrier last?
At present it is very difficult to assess how long an HIV patient can survive without distinctive (clinical) symptoms of the disease, namely the AIDS syndrome. At the outbreak of the outbreak, non-infected patients were estimated to have an asymptomatic HIV carrier for up to 10 years; and the period of clinical symptoms, or AIDS, lasts approx. 18 months. Today, a properly treated person can survive for 15-20 years, and some patients can survive without AIDS symptoms even 25-30 years. Despite the infection, the patient's condition in this period is generally good. He can lead an active professional and social life. However, HIV infection in spite of the lack of clear symptoms, however, over the years there is a worsening of resistance to microbes and symptoms of AIDS.
MEMBERS:
In a few or a dozen years, the HIV virus can completely destroy the immune system.
Untreated infection with HIV virus results in the destruction of the immune system after many years. The body becomes defenseless against microbes that do not cause any disease symptoms under normal conditions. We then have an acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, ie AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome). From that moment, recurrent fungal, viral, bacterial, protozoan and uncontrolled tumor growth, also caused by the immune system impairment - cause progressive wasting of the body, which leads to death of the patient.
