The role of in natural medicines in the treatment of obesity and metabolic syndrome:
● Support digestive processes
● Support weight loss - blocking the absorption of fat (eg plant sterols) and carbohydrates (inulin)
● They support the treatment of the metabolic syndrome - they modify the healthy metabolism and prevent its dangerous complications.
● Normalize the functions of the digestive system: prevent digestive disorders and intestinal inflammations; cleanse the intestines and support bowel movements.
● They exert systemic metabolic and health effects
● An additional advantage of these drugs are few side effects and not harmful to health. As well as the possibility of chronic use, without the immunization of pathogens and the body on their therapeutic mechanism.
3. VEGETABLE STEROLS LOWER THE CHOLESTEROL LEVEL [6]
Chemical structure of sterols
Sterols, otherwise known as phytosterols, are compounds found in plant tissues and their analogues are found in animal tissues. The most important phytosterols include: beta-sitosterol and its isomers, stigmasterol, campesterol, taraksasterol, brassicasterol and ergosterol. This group of compounds is formed in plants with ... cholesterol, because it has been proven that it is also produced in many plant organisms as a precursor of plant sterols.
Therapeutic effects from the use of sterols
Numerous pharmacological and clinical studies have proven that phytosterols, administered to humans or animals, significantly reduce the level of total cholesterol. They inhibit the absorption of dietary cholesterol in the large intestine, because they compete with it for a place in emulsion micelles transferring body lipids to the blood, and with it to the liver. This action has a beneficial effect on the whole body, because it allows maintaining the full activity and health of the heart, prostate, liver and immune system. In addition, these sterols reduce the severity of inflammation in the body, especially in the liver, and this means that they act protectively and reduce the risk of tumor tissue formation. However, they increase the formation of the so-called T cells that have the ability to enhance the physiological activity of other cells in this system.
Phytosterols are safe compounds, which is why they can be recommended and used without fear
for the occurrence of harmful side effects for both pregnant and nursing women as well as elderly people, convalescents and adolescents.
Dosage of plant sterols
In most preparations, manufacturers recommend at least 130-150 mg of sterols, 2-3 times daily before meals. If the phytosterol treatment is to take a long time, it should be remembered that they interfere with the absorption of not only cholesterol in the intestine, but also valuable fat and vitamin E and K vitamins. Therefore, long-term therapy should be interrupted, or additionally given these vitamins as dietary supplements during therapy.
4. WHITE MORWA REDUCES SUGAR AND CHOLESTEROL LEVEL
An important and well-known medicinal plant in the profilics and therapy of the metabolic syndrome are white mulberry leaves (Morus alba L - folium).
In Poland, preparations are usually used in tablets from mulberry leaves, although you can also collect the leaves yourself, remove them and make them a cup of tea.
White mulberry leaves contain the following substances:
vitamins • thiamine (B1); • riboflavin (B2); • pyridoxine (B6); • nicotinic acid (vitamin PP) and palmitic and fumaric acids. In addition, sterols (β - sitosterol), • acids (palmitic, fumaric). A certain content of other medicinal substances was also found, such as: • eugenol, • phenol, • guaiacol, • methyl salicylate.
Healing properties of active substances from white mulberry leaves
A basic set in the active ingredients of the white mulberry leaves favorably affects the normalization of blood sugar. Active substances from mulberry work by slowing down the activity of enzymes responsible for the breakdown of carbohydrates in the digestive system, in particular they limit the metabolism of so-called Compound sugars - starch, sucrose, and thus limit their transformation into easily digestible glucose. Thanks to this part of the carbohydrates pass through the intestine in a non-digested form and is excreted from the stool. This leads to the stabilization of blood sugar levels, due to its less rapid absorption after meals.
B. Blocking the breakdown of carbohydrates in the digestive system supports slimming. This is due to the fact that the digestion of carbohydrates leads to their so-called lipid metabolism - that is, transformation into fat. Limiting the absorption of sugars - thus reducing fat production and deposition of adipose tissue. This means that medicinal active substances from white mulberry blocking the digestion of carbohydrates perfectly support the process of slimming. What is important for slimming down - these valuable substances of mulberry also reduce hunger for sweets - the most insidious enemy of a slim figure.
Healing effects from the use of white mulberry preparations:
• lowering cholesterol,
• lowering the blood glucose concentration in the blood serum,
• reduced appetite and excessive appetite
White mulberry fruit
It is also worth paying attention to the fruits of white mulberry. They contain up to 20% (!) Of sugars - mainly glucose, maltose, sucrose and fructose; in addition, organic acids - lemon and apple, and volatile oil. Due to the high content of easily digestible sugars, they are not suitable for the treatment of metabolic syndrome. Population of the East - for example, the inhabitants of the Himalayas are drying it and using it as a regenerating and strengthening food. In Chinese folk medicine, all parts of white mulberry - ie leaves, dried fruit, and fruit jam - are used for medicinal purposes.

Policosanol is a natural compound derived from sugar cane
This compound is considered a strong natural anticholesterol agent. Therefore, it is well-suited for supporting the treatment of the metabolic syndrome.
How does Policosanol support the treatment of the metabolic syndrome?
First, it lowers cholesterol, because it controls its production by the liver, as well as it has some involvement in the processing of cholesterol in the blood vessels, which translates into the inhibition of atherosclerosis. Controlling production in the liver is important because only a small amount of food-derived cholesterol is in the blood, while the whole large pot is produced in the liver. It was found that polycosanol in doses of 10-20 mg per day, taken in the evening with food lowered total cholesterol in the blood plasma by 17-21%; the level of LDL lipoproteins decreases by 21-29%, while it increases the level of so-called good HDL cholesterol. In this context, polycosanol should be considered a promising natural medicine in the prevention and treatment of artherosclerosis and deposition of atherosclerotic lipoproteins.
Secondly - polycosanol has a protective effect on people at risk of metabolic syndrome of people, including type II diabetes or liver problems
